Poco is gearing up to launch its new affordable Poco M smartphone. The company has confirmed that it will launch the Poco M5, a successor to the Poco M4 in India and globally on September 5. Here’s what to expect.
Poco has confirmed the launch of the Poco M5 via a recent tweet and “Save the Dates” it is now sending. The launch will take place at 5:30 pm and will be live streamed via the company’s YouTube channel.
The company has also revealed the Poco M5’s design. It is seen sporting a design similar to the Poco M4 5G with a huge rear camera hump with two camera housings and a waterdrop notched display.
The smartphone is painted in yellow, which is Poco’s signature color, and we expect to see more colorways too. However, the phone is slightly different from its successor; it has rounded edges as opposed to the flat-edge design of the Poco M4.
As for the spec sheet, nothing is confirmed as of now. But a report by 91Mobiles hints at the MediaTek Helio G99 chipset for the Poco M5. For those who don’t know, MediaTek recently introduced the Helio G99 gaming SoC based on the 6nm process. It comes with an octa-core CPU and two high-performance Arm Cortex-A76 processors, paired with Mali G57-class GPU. There’s support for MediaTek Hyper Engine 2.0 lite, 120Hz refresh rate, 108MP cameras, Networking Engine 2.0, and more features.
Speaking of the Poco M5, it could get a 5,000mAh battery with 33W fast charging, Android 12, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and more. The phone could fall under Rs 15,000 and will most likely be sold via Flipkart.
Since the launch is a week from now, it’s best to wait. To get all details about the upcoming Poco M5, stay tuned to this space!

The official (machine-translated) name is Xiaomi Redmi K40 Game Enhanced Version and will have some differences from its K40 siblings.
The new phone will have shoulder on the side, so they are on top when the phone is held horizontally. The camera design is also different - Redmi will stick to the idea of two big lenses, but it will have a third big camera in the middle without an empty circle. The shooters will have an LED ring around them that will light up when Game Mode is activated.
Speaking about the mode, it will be triggered with a physical key, sitting right next to the top trigger. This would likely mean the volume rocker making its way on the left side, but we shouldn’t be surprised to see all the keys on one side.
There are seven more days until the launch, so we expect Redmi to tease more features until then.

Xiaomi has announced its most powerful smartphone this year, the Mi 11 Ultra. This is the company’s brand new flagship, as it’s positioned above the Mi 11 which originally launched back in December.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra has a lot to offer, to say the least. This smartphone comes with a second display on the back, as leaks suggested. On top of that, it offers crazy fast wireless charging, and truly powerful specs.
Let’s talk about the design for a second first, though. From the front, the design does resemble its sibling. It includes a display camera hole in the top-left corner. Its display is curved, in fact, this is a quad-curved panel that the company refers to as “DotDisplay”.
The bezels are basically non-existent. All of the phone’s physical buttons sit on the right-hand side. You will notice that the phone’s back is curved towards the sides, while a huge camera module sits on the back. Inside that module, the company included three cameras. More on that soon. The phone is made out of metal and ceramic.
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra features a 6.81-inch QHD+ (3200 x 1440) AMOLED display. This display delivers a 120Hz refresh rate, and 480Hz touch sampling rate. The display also offers an adaptive refresh rate (30Hz / 60Hz / 90Hz / 120Hz). Xiaomi refers to this feature as “AdaptiveSync”.
The display does support HDR10+ content, and it offers 1.07 billion colors. It is rated as an A+ panel by DisplayMate, and it’s protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus, Corning’s latest glass protection.
Its rear-facing display measures 1.1 inches. It’s an AMOLED panel with a resolution of 126 x 294, and it offers 400 nits peak brightness. This display can be on all the time, if you want it to.
The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, the most powerful processor Qualcomm has to offer. Xiaomi also included 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM here, along with 256GB of UFS 3.1 flash storage. Three-phase cooling technology is also included.
Now, in regards to those cameras. A 50-megapixel main camera (1.4um pixel size, 2.8um 4-in-1 Super Pixel, f/1.95 aperture, 8P lens, 85-degree FoV) leads the pack on the back. A 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera (128-degree FoV, f/2.2 aperture, 0.8um pixel size, 1.6um 4-in-1 Super Pixel, PDAF, 7P lens, macro camera, 8K video recording) is also included.
The third and last camera on the back is a 48-megapixel telephoto unit (5x optical zoom, 10x hybrid zoom, 120x digital zoom, 0.8um pixel size, 1.6um 4-in-1 Super Pixel, PDAF, OIS, f/4.1 aperture, 8K video recording).
A 20-megapixel camera (f/2.2 aperture, 0.8m pixel size, 1.6um 4-in-1 Super Pixel, 78-degree FoV, fixed focus) sits on the front side of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra.
The phone comes with stereo speakers, they’re tuned and boosted by Harman Kardon. The device does have hi-res audio certification as well. Two SIM card slots are also included, and the phone supports dual 5G standby.
Wi-Fi 6E and 6 support is here, and the same goes for Bluetooth 5.2. An IR blaster sits at the top of the phone, and the Mi 11 Ultra comes with a multifunctional NFC chip.
A 5,000mAh battery is included in the Mi 11 Ultra package, and the device supports fast charging. It supports 67W wired and wireless charging. So, it trumps the OnePlus 9 Pro, even, when it comes to charging speed. 10W reverse wireless charging is also included.
An in-display fingerprint scanner sits inside of this phone, and it’s an optical module. This smartphone measures 164.3 x 74.6 x 8.38mm, while it weighs 234 grams. It comes in Ceramic White and Ceramic Black variants.
The pricing is still now available, at least not for global markets. And yes, this phone will be available globally, it will not be exclusive to China, or anything of the sort.

]]>Beijing, CHINA, May 26, 2020 – Today, global technology leader Xiaomi officially announced the Redmi 10X for Mainland China – the first phone in the new Redmi X series. Standing at the forefront of the industry, Redmi 10X is the first smartphone to ship with the MediaTek Dimensity 820 SoC while also supporting dual 5G standby, achieving top-of-the-line performance with an AnTuTu score of over 410,000. The series also offers a Samsung AMOLED display and 30x digital zoom camera.
Leading performance with MediaTek Dimensity 820
Powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 820 processor, Redmi 10X series is currently the highest performing mid-to-high-end smartphone on the market. Thanks to its flagship-level four-core architecture (4X ARM Cortex-A76 cores and 4X ARM Cortex A55 cores), MediaTek 820 provides a blazing clock speed of up to 2.6Hz, enabling Redmi 10X to achieve an AnTuTu score of over 410,000, ranking first in its price range.
To ensure stable and uninterrupted performance during prolonged gaming sessions, Redmi 10X series is kept cool with a liquid cooling system that surrounds a suspended heat pipe, and multi-layered graphite to disperse the heat.
Non-stop connectivity with world’s first dual 5G standby
Redmi 10X series adopts an integrated 5G solution which supports dual-mode SA+NSA to cover mainstream Mainland China 5G frequency bands. When connected to two 5G networks simultaneously, the device can intelligently switch between the two networks to ensure optimal 5G connectivity at all times.
To continually provide peak performance with the best power consumption rate, Redmi 10X also leverages the MediaTek 5G UltraSave energy management function and smart switching technology to intelligently select optimal and sustained signal quality at lowest power.
Redmi 10X series also has targeted optimization capabilities for different usage scenarios such as elevators, basements, and high-speed transport. It is able to monitor network signals throughout popular transit routes to constantly optimize network parameters and pathways, greatly reducing the rate at which calls drop or data connectivity is lost, ensuring a stable and fast 5G connection across all locations.
Celebrate creativity with unparalleled camera capability
Users can get creative with light photography thanks to Redmi 10X series’ outstanding camera capabilities that can capture intricate and experimental scenarios such as crowds, night scenery, running water, light painting, and starry skies. With this dynamic camera, users don’t need to fiddle with complex parameter setups in order to take playful images of light.
Redmi 10X series also boasts the industry’s first handheld low-light timelapse camera. Thanks to the low-light registration algorithm, interest point screening and 10ms nightscape alignment, users can take stunning night time photos and videos without the need of a tripod, providing a much simpler way of upgrading photography skills and video quality.
Redmi 10X series is fitted with a 48MP ultra-high resolution main camera. Redmi 10X Pro sports a 30x digital zoom with optical image stabilization (OIS), which significantly increases the stability while taking pictures.
Flagship-level features that revamps your mobile experience
Redmi 10X series sports a 6.57’’ Samsung AMOLED display that boasts 2400×1080 resolution for bright and clear image. The display supports HDR10+ and adjusts brightness and contrast in real time based on the content being played, ensuring optimal image details. With DC dimming, it minimizes stroboscopic effects in low lighting and ensures a comfortable viewing experience in the dark.
Redmi 10X series features an in-screen fingerprint sensor and customizable Always-on Display. The new Dark Mode 2.0 allows non-compatible third party apps to obtain dark mode coverage in all scenarios which ensures comfortable viewing at night, and saves 50% more power compared to LCD Dark Mode.
Redmi 10X series puts an end to the hassle of daily charging. Equipped with a 4,520mAh (typ) large capacity battery, it offers the hardware required for long lasting battery life. Redmi 10X Pro also supports 33W PD fast charge to quickly regain a sufficiently charged battery level.

The Lunar Gold variant adopts the AG craft commonly seen in flagship phones, which is designed with a matte finish that exudes quality and is resistant to finger smudges. Both sides of the device are built with the highly durable Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5, giving it smash and drop-proof qualities. Redmi 10X series sports IP53-level for dust and splash protection, offering resistance to light rain and other unexpected mishaps of daily life.

Its production in mainland China has mostly resumed, and smartphone demand has rebounded quickly. Since April, its mainland China smartphone shipments have gradually returned to the pre-pandemic level, and its smart TV shipments have also largely recovered.
In overseas markets, Xiaomi’s extensive global reach allowed the Group to quickly strategize and deploy resources across different markets in response to the pandemic. As lockdown measures in various markets are gradually lifted, sales are starting to recover. As of the third week of May, the weekly number of smartphone activations in the European market had returned to over 90% of the average weekly level in January 2020.

]]>Beijing, China, May 19, 2020 – Xiaomi today unveiled its latest release of Android-based OS: MIUI 12, delivering on the top-notch experience MIUI users have come to expect. The much-awaited MIUI 12 launches with a slew of bottom-up optimizations and ushers in a five-star OS experience to impress new and existing users globally. As privacy protection is at the core of the development of MIUI, MIUI 12 introduces a host of enhanced privacy features that continuously reinforce this focus. With a brand-new UI design and innovative system animations, MIUI users are bound to enjoy a “lifelike” system experience as a highlight amongst several new features.
Reinforced privacy protection makes the user informed and empowered
MIUI 12 grants the user stronger control over permissions which takes privacy protection to the next level. When individual apps ask for permissions, a wider range of options (such as “While using the app” and “Notify”) is offered. Building on Android’s rigorous permission control over location, MIUI 12 takes things a step further to manage apps that request sensitive permissions. In addition to location, permissions to access camera, microphone, contacts, call history, calendar and storage are only allowed under “While using the app” mode. MIUI 12 also protects the user’s privacy when sharing photos: location information and metadata can be removed before the items are sent.
Design and animations inspired by nature
MIUI 12 brings the OS experience to life with a bottom-up revamped UI design and nuanced system animations. System-wide, core scene animations are fully refreshed with system-level technical innovations. With Mi Render Engine, MIUI 12 creates an ultra-smooth UI experience. Powered by Mi Physics Engine, the elegant motion of icons simulates a 3D curve that resembles real-life motion trajectory. From the elegant opening and closing of apps to the smooth switching between apps, every detail mirrors a refreshing design methodology inspired by nature. With nuanced system animations, MIUI 12 introduces a lifelike OS experience where every detail becomes tangibly real.
Adopting realistic visualizations across the system allows us to make each screen more informative and comprehensible. Data is perceived more intuitively when it’s presented in graphics. Visualizations save time and make the interaction with the mobile device more intuitive and efficient. Visualized elements also acknowledge the user’s presence by reflecting motion in animations, which makes every glance at the screen unique and personal.
The newly introduced “Super Wallpaper” takes cosmic aesthetics to a new level with stunning reconstructions of iconic planetary landforms based on NASA’s official imagery. Super wallpapers combine Always-on display, Home screen, and Lock screen into an exciting space mission, revealing new parts of distant planets as the user makes their way through the system. With Super Wallpaper, MIUI 12 becomes a window into the transient splendor of the universe.
New features and improvements
MIUI 12 introduces state-of-the-art multitasking solutions in the form of global floating windows. When the user navigates the system using full screen gestures, floating windows can facilitate multitasking and save the trouble of constantly switching between apps. Floating windows can be easily moved, closed, and resized by simple gestures applied to the action bar. For example, when a text message comes while a video is playing, the user can reply in the floating window without pausing playback. Floating windows make multitasking on mobile devices seamless, convenient and disturbance-free.
MIUI 12 enhanced the previously introduced screen casting functionality, turning it into a must-have tool for any presenter. Now, the user can start casting documents, apps, videos, and games with a single tap. Multitasking is also supported here: the windows that are being cast can be minimized at any time. The option to cast items with the screen off decreases power consumption and hiding private items doesn’t allow floating notifications and incoming calls to appear on external monitors.
MIUI 12 supports an Ultra battery saver mode. With this feature on, the most power-consuming features will be restricted to extend the phone’s standby time and reduce power consumption when the phone’s battery is running low. Calls, messages, and network connectivity won’t be affected and will remain fully usable.
MIUI 12 comes with a beautiful new look with enhanced Dark Mode. With a darker color palette for system backgrounds, system apps, and third-party apps alike, Dark Mode provides an outstanding viewing experience in low-light environments. When Dark Mode is on, the user can also choose to adjust contrast automatically to match the ambient light when screen brightness is reduced. Dark Mode also lowers power consumption and helps to ease eye strain.
Xiaomi’s Poco Launcher has proven to be well-received by global users. Its signature feature – the App drawer – now comes to MIUI 12. If the user turns it on, all apps will go there, which will make the Home screen cleaner and neater. The user can also group apps automatically according to the user’s preferences to find the needed app in just a few swipes.
